“Full Crest” Athens Silver Owl Tetradrachm | NGC | Choice Very Fine 5×4
In the book entitled, The 100 Greatest Ancient Coins, the #10 highest ranked coin is the Athenian Silver Tetradrachm, commonly known at the Attica Silver Owl. Struck over 2,400 years ago, these large 17 gram silver coins are each one of a kind and depict the goddess Athena on the obverse and an owl on the reverse. These coins were extensively circulated across the ancient empires for hundreds of years. This particular example is a “full crest” variety, showing the entirety of the helmet on the head of Athena–less than 2% of all Owls carry this distinction. Today, we’re offering the final few coins we just received back from NGC Ancients at remarkable prices. We believe these coins offer unsurpassed value and extraordinary quality in the ancient coin market. Interested in different grades or price points? Just call and we can help.
